Blind Soldier Steve Baskis on Snow & Ice Training

The whole team finally met in Colorado on august 4th.  I had been looking forward to this moment for some time now. We set off for Saint Mary’s glacier for training with our newly acquired gear. I was looking forward to tackling a steep ice slope, never have I used crampons and an ice axe, so i was ready for the challenge.  Everyone did great and the team seems very strong. The very next day everyone but one summited James Peak.  Matt who did not summit because of problems with his prosthetic, would have had no problem though. This was my 3rd climb as a blind individual and i have noticed significant improvement in my speed and physical strength. The week was wrapped up with a meeting at eriks house.  Everything is slowly coming together, I cannot wait for our expedition in the Himalayas.

deuces,
steve
